Another Mike Maffett image reminds us that the Appalachian Trail crosses Dick's Creek Gap on Highway 76 only 8 miles, as the crow flies, from Lake Burton. It covers 2,175 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine and touches 14 states. It is a crown jewel of the conservation movement in the United States.
